City to unveil revamped
Voelcker Park web site with improved public access, information
A new City of San Antonio web site boasting colorful photos and
improved public access will go live on Friday, February 29. The site
features a community meeting video, detailed maps of the Voelcker Park
project and clearly outlined links, making the site user friendly and easy
to navigate. The site contains information on the history of Voelcker Park
and the latest information on meetings, site tours and consultant visits.
The new address, www.voelckerpark.com, will be easier for citizens to
locate and to remember.
"Our entire community will benefit from the Voelcker Park project and we
want to make sure people get as much information as possible," said Mayor
Phil Hardberger. "This web site will keep citizens and stakeholders aware
of our progress and also give them an opportunity to give us feedback."
In the future, citizens will be able to participate in public forums
regarding critical issues in the development of the park as well as
participate in polls regarding potential master plan designs of the park.
“The high visibility of this project coupled with the unique opportunity
that we have to master plan this park from the ground up prior to
development makes it critical that we maintain close contact with the
stakeholders every step of the way,” said Krystal Strong, Parks and
Recreation Department special projects manager. “This web site is one more
way for us to do that.”
The 311-acre park, previously owned by Max and Minnie Voelcker, who
operated a dairy farm there, is located on either side of Wurzbach Parkway
between Military Highway and Blanco Road.
Consultants Stimson Associates and D.I.R.T. Studio were selected to design
the
park in July following a national juried design competition headed by
Mayor Hardberger. After two sets of public input meetings and community
events, the next step will be a community meeting on March 3 in which the
initial conceptual design is expected to be unveiled.
