Release Date: March 20, 2008 City of San Antonio Communications Office: 207-7234 Public Meeting rescheduled for the Proposed E. Commerce Street Arts & Entertainment District - Public invited to discuss design standards for the proposed district - The City of San Antonio Planning and Community Development Department in partnership with San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside (SAGE) will be holding a public meeting for community stakeholders to provide their input on design standards for the proposed East Commerce Street Arts & Entertainment District. This meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Claude W. Black Community Center, 2805 E. Commerce Street. An Arts and Entertainment District is a special zoning district that would promote and protect existing arts and entertainment venues and encourage the creation and development of additional arts and entertainment venues and compatible uses. East Commerce Street, between the Alamodome and the AT&T Center, is the proposed location for this new district. Community stakeholders provided their vision for an Arts & Entertainment District during a Visioning Workshop held in February. Their input was used to create a set of draft design standards for the proposed district. During this public meeting, participants will be taken on a virtual tour of the E. Commerce Street area and asked to provide their feedback on these draft design standards. A final draft of the E. Commerce St. Arts and Entertainment District standards will be presented to the public during an Open House (date and location to be announced at a later time). After incorporating final comments from the public, this new special zoning district will be presented by the Planning and Community Development Department to Zoning Commission for consideration and City Council for approval. For more information about the proposed E. Commerce
Street Arts & Entertainment District, call Michael Taylor at 207-0145.
