Public invited to
proposed future land use plan and economic development goals workshop for
Eastern Triangle Community Plan
The Eastern Triangle Community Plan Business and Development Meeting is
set for Tuesday, September 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
Highland Social Club, located at 2929 South W.W. White Road. Business,
commercial property and vacant property owners who have not attended
previous Eastern Triangle Community Plan workshops or meetings are highly
encouraged to attend. Attendees will have an opportunity to review a draft
of the future land use plan and review a draft of the economic development
goals in the plan.
The Eastern Triangle planning area is located in southeast Bexar County
and is generally bounded by IH 10 to the north; South Foster Road and Loop
410 to the east; New Sulphur Springs, Southcross Boulevard and Roland
Avenue to the south; and Roland Avenue to the west. The planning area
consists of approximately 9,589 acres with a population of approximately
28,000 residents (Census 2000).
A community plan is a collaborative effort with involvement of many
different community stakeholders. The plan takes into consideration the
community’s goals, current infrastructure, best planning practices, input
from government agencies and the City’s Master Plan policies.
Completed plans represent the collective vision for the community.
Community plans identify the preferred method and form of future growth
and ideas for community improvement. After plan adoption, the future land
use plan will be utilized by the City when evaluating zoning decisions.
The plan is used for policy recommendations of priority projects as part
of the Annual Improvement Project Report to City Council. Additionally as
a component of the City Master Plan, plans should be consulted in
reviewing projects for capital projects, bonds, and consideration of new
programs. Currently, there are 36 adopted community and neighborhood
plans.
In March 2008, the Planning and Community Development Department began the
planning process. The first Planning Team meeting was held in April
followed by the first public meeting held on May 31, 2008. Additionally,
five plan writing workshops were held between June and August which
included: economic development and housing; land use; transportation,
infrastructure and drainage; crime and public safety; and parks, linear
greenways, community facilities and public health.
