Ambassador of Spain to the United States makes first official visit to San Antonio

The ambassador of Spain to the United States, His Excellency Jorge Dezcallar de Mazarredo, will visit San Antonio March 5–7 to explore new growth opportunities between Spain and San Antonio. Ambassador Dezcallar’s eagerness to visit San Antonio just a few months into his tenure speaks well of San Antonio’s growing international recognition, as well as the City’s efforts to strengthen its bonds with Spain through its Sister City programs in the Canary Islands.

Dezcallar was named ambassador to the United States on August 21, 2008. Prior to his selection, Dezcallar served in many distinguished positions in the Spanish government; including director of the Center for National Intelligence – the Spanish equivalent of the CIA.

The City of San Antonio, in collaboration with the Friends of the Canary Islands Association, will host a welcoming reception for ambassador Dezcallar on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the International Center, 3rd floor conference room, located at 203 S. St. Mary’s Street. Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Ramos will officiate the reception.

For more information on the ambassador’s visit, call Jose Maria Vega, chief of protocol, at the City’s International Affairs Department, at 210-207-8102.
