City of San Antonio
launches Embrace BRAC San Antonio campaign
Today, the City of San Antonio launched the Embrace BRAC San
Antonio public awareness campaign in front of 200 community leaders,
military officers and elected officials at Fort Sam Houston’s historic
Quadrangle Mall. The multimedia communications effort is aimed at
creating greater local awareness about the opportunities presented by
the multi-billion-dollar military realignment project happening in San
Antonio.
“With the military relocating its medical training and research
facilities to San Antonio, our community will see an economic benefit of
more than $5 billion,” said Mayor Julián Castro. “There is more than $3
billion being invested in construction today, mostly at Ft. Sam Houston.
There will be thousands of families moving to San Antonio in 2010 and
2011. When you put all of those numbers together, this BRAC project
represents major economic opportunities for San Antonio – and that’s why
we want all of San Antonio to be informed about this military
realignment as much as possible.”
The Embrace BRAC theme reflects the
message that San Antonio is ready to welcome and support the thousands of
families who will live and work in the Alamo City. The multimedia campaign
includes military “thank you” events, billboards and public service
announcements featuring Mayor Castro, San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Gregg
Popovich
and military personnel. Not only will the interactive website provide
information on schools, local government and jobs, but it will also
highlight the city’s culture, entertainment venues and nightlife.
“We are so excited about these important
developments at Fort Sam Houston. Our East Side community and the entire
city are full of wonderful neighborhoods that will provide an excellent
quality of life for the families relocating to the area,” said Ivy Taylor,
councilwoman for District 2. “I look forward to embracing our new neighbors
and working closely with military officials to maximize the impact of BRAC
on our community.”
