Cesar Chavez student art competition deadline approaching

This Friday, March 6, is the deadline to submit items for the Cesar Chavez student art competition. All students Pre-K to 12th grade are encouraged to submit their artwork honoring the life and legacy of labor rights leader Cesar Chavez.

As a young migrant farm worker, Chavez attended 30 different schools before ending his education in the 8th grade. Although he never completed his formal education, he continued to study philosophy and economics and read books on Gandhi and others who influenced his lifetime work.

The awards presentation is scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at the Institute of Texan Cultures. The world-renowned artist Jesse Treviņo will serve as the grand art judge and keynote speaker.
