Cesar Chavez college scholarships available

High School seniors and undergraduate college students living in Bexar County are encouraged to apply for the 2009 Cesar E. Chavez Scholarship. Each award will vary but are based on individual need and availability of funds. Scholarships start at $500.

This scholarship is a tribute to the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, the labor rights leader who attended 30 schools before ending his education in the 8th grade to work as a migrant farmworker full time. Although he ended is formal education because of family need, he continued to have a passion for education and studied philosophy, economics and the life of Gandhi and other influences to his life’s work.

Scholarship applications are available on the City’s website at www.sanantonio.gov/chavezmarch and www.cesarchavezlegacy.org. Completed application forms, along with corresponding documents, must be postmarked by March 15, 2009.
