Head Start services to
continue uninterrupted
-Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) to
provide employment search, placement and support resources to
job-seeking PCI employees-
The City of San Antonio affirms its commitment to ensure that all 6,789
children will continue receiving Head Start Services without
interruption. In order to prepare parents for this change, the City and
its Head Start partners will host informational meetings at Head Start
Centers and other locations throughout the community, beginning the week
of April 13 through the summer.
Parent/Child, Inc. (PCI) will provide Head Start services through July
31, 2009. Effective August 1, 2009, PCI will no longer provide Head
Start services for Bexar County.
Beginning on August 24, Edgewood ISD, San Antonio ISD, AVANCE, and
Region 20 Education Service Center, will begin providing new and higher
quality Head Start services led by certified, bachelor-degreed early
childhood education teachers.
“The City and our partners will ensure that all 6,789 Head Start
students and their parents receive these new services as prescribed by
federal Head Start regulations. We are changing education providers to
meet the federal Head Start standards and offer a higher quality of
education to our children,” Community Initiatives Director Dennis Campa
said.
Currently enrolled children will be automatically eligible for next
year’s Head Start Program. Parents of currently enrolled children will
receive enrollment information for the new program year by May 1.
Community meetings have also been scheduled to discuss changes to the
Head Start Program and answer parents’ questions about the new agencies
and centers that will provide services.
The City and its new partners will recruit and retain the most qualified
PCI employees in the program. All PCI employees have been receiving
employment assistance through Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA).
