Newly-created
Building Standards Board seeking applicants
Citizens who have an interest in city government and are also interested
in improving the quality of life for the City of San Antonio are invited
to apply for one of the 14 positions available on the Building Standards
Board (BSB). Individuals interested in serving on this board can obtain
an application by visiting
www.sanantonio.gov/clerk. The deadline to submit an application for
the positions is Monday, July 8.
On May 5 the San Antonio City Council approved a new ordinance
strengthening, updating and clarifying minimum property maintenance
requirements for property owners and tenants. This included a
reconstitution of the City-staffed Dangerous Structures Determination
Board (DSDB) into a 14-member citizen-based Building Standards Board
(BSB), 10 of which are to be appointed by City Council district and four
at-large.
The new Building Standards Board (BSB) will hear appeals to and
violations of the new minimum property maintenance code, the San Antonio
Property Maintenance Code (SAPMC), as well as rule on cases related to
dangerous and dilapidated structures.
The ten district appointees should have some of the following
experience:
- Structural engineer
- Architect
- Neighborhood association leader
- Maintenance professional
- Real estate professional
- Home inspector
- Construction professional
- Concerned citizen
- Historic preservation professional
The four at-large appointments are prescribed for
the following categories:
- Single-family rental property
manager
- Multi-family rental property
manager
- Commercial rental property manager
- Historic preservation professional
