Release Date: March 31, 2011 City of San Antonio Communications and Public Affairs Department: 207-7234 City launches "Don't Trash Fiesta...No One Likes a Messy Party" campaign to promote a clean and green 10-day celebration Today, City leaders joined the Downtown Operations and Solid Waste Management Departments in Main Plaza to launch "Don't Trash Fiesta...No One Likes a Messy Party" an educational campaign to promote keeping San Antonio clean during the 10-day Fiesta celebration.
"This 'Don't Trash Fiesta' initiative is an effort the City is taking to reduce waste and green our events that take place in our community especially those in our beautiful downtown," said Paula X. Stallcup, director, Downtown Operations Department. "We, as Fiesta goers, have a responsibility as well to do our part by helping to reduce waste at our events by throwing items in the trash bin or recycling bin. The City and our Fiesta partners are committed to reducing waste and going green, and making Fiesta events waste-free and environmentally friendly." Volunteers will also tote the message on shirts during the Battle of Flowers Parade as they hand out mesh recycling bags and garbage bags to parade goers. At the end of the parade, volunteers will pick up the bags and place the items in the appropriate containers. The Solid Waste Management Department will also have recycling and garbage trucks stationed throughout the parade route for people to conveniently dispose of their items. "Our goal is to let residents and visitors know that the opportunity to recycle is there for them during fiesta," said David W. McCary, director, Solid Waste Management Department. "We want to make it as easy and convenient for them during this time as it is at home." So remember San Antonio, don't trash Fiesta, because no one likes a messy party! |
