City seeks Board applicants for development in Southeast neighborhoods

Members of the community have the opportunity to help make decisions about how public money is spent, developing the Southeast side of San Antonio and serve the community in a greater sense. The City of San Antonio is seeking board applicants for the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) Highland Heights #4. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 4, 2011.

The zone was designated to support development in the southern section of the City. TIRZ board members serve a vital role in developing these areas into viable and economically diverse sectors of the city. Board members serve in an oversight capacity and make decisions about how TIRZ money is spent. Members are also responsible for helping to create or amend the guiding documents of the TIRZ, and approve contractual agreements and reimbursement requests from developers and other participating taxing entities. Board members are only obligated to attend occasional meetings and bring a willingness to serve the community.

To be eligible for appointment to the board, an individual must; 1) be at least 18 years of age; and 2) own real property in the zone or be an employee or agent of a person that owns real property in the zone.

Interested applicants can obtain more information about each of the zones at www.sanantonio.gov/ccdo/tif. Applications are available at the Office of the City Clerk website at www.sanantonio.gov/clerk.

City staff is waiting to help applicants understand the process, learn the ins and outs of service on a board and complete an application. Call the City of San Antonio Tax Increment Financing Unit at 207-5496.
