Public invited to discuss Commercial Design Standards for Austin Highway/ Harry Wurzbach

The City's Department of Planning and Community Development invites the community to a public meeting to discuss the development of commercial design standards for the Austin Highway/Harry Wurzbach Metropolitan Corridor. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 3303 Urban Crest.

The proposed design standards will apply to future commercial construction projects along Austin Highway between North New Braunfels and Loop 410 and along Harry Wurzbach between Loop 410 and Fort Sam Houston. The design standards will focus on preserving the commercial character and historic significance of the corridor by creating unifying standards for new commercial construction, such as building materials, landscaping and signage.

The community will have an opportunity to share ideas on how the area should redevelop, learn more about the Corridor Overlay District program and volunteer to join the Planning Team. After the meeting, the Planning Team, comprised of community members and stakeholders, will hold a series of workshops to develop the draft design standards. There will be future public meetings so the greater community can review the work of the Planning Team. The design standards then go to the Zoning Commission and City Council for approval as part of a new zoning overlay district for Austin Highway/Harry Wurzbach.
