Release Date: October 21, 2011 City of San Antonio Communications Office: 207-7234 Downtown Strategic Framework Plan lays out strategy to bring more people, more jobs, more activity to the Center City Centro Partnership San Antonio is hosting a public workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Banquet Center, located at 308 Avenue E, to unveil the Downtown Strategic Framework Plan. The plan was developed with input from stakeholders throughout the summer and at a public workshop held in mid-July. More than 400 members of the public attended the first workshop. Participants are encouraged to register for the event at www.surveymonkey.com/s/downtownsa in order to help organizers plan for the workshop. "It's an exciting time to be downtown," said Ben Brewer, Executive Director for Centro Partnership San Antonio. "Great cities have one thing in common and that's great downtowns. This plan will help us turn a good downtown into a world-class downtown for residents, workers, and visitors." The public workshop will begin with an open house consisting of exhibits describing the project area and initial findings. After the open house, attendees will listen to a short presentation beginning at 6 p.m. that will outline the various elements of the plan. They will participate in small work groups to discuss what they like about the proposed plan and what they would change if given the opportunity. The workshop will conclude with each group giving a report on their small group discussions. "Mayor Julián Castro has provided the energy and momentum to revitalize downtown for both businesses and residents," said Pat DiGiovanni, Deputy City Manager. "Staff is working to identify and implement the necessary priorities to make the vision a reality and we need the public's input to strengthen the plan, so together we can bring it to fruition." The initial vision for increasing jobs and housing downtown originated from the Mayor's SA2020 Initiative which identified a goal to have 13,775 more people working downtown and 5,000 more housing units by 2020. The Downtown Strategic Framework Plan is built from this effort and calls for even more aggressive targets.
