Release Date: October 2, 2011 City of San Antonio Communications Office: 207-7234 City will temporarily relocate some Downtown City offices and close sections of two streets due to weekend fire As a result of the Saturday morning four-alarm fire that took place downtown at W. Commerce Street and Main Street, an emergency demolition will be needed of the Main Street Ballroom, Poblanos on Main Mexican Food Restaurant, Mama's Cafe's headquarters offices, and Meat Market Barbecue. The fire took place adjacent to the Riverview Tower building that suffered fire damage and houses several City of San Antonio offices. More than 300 employees from several City departments will be relocated to other City-owned facilities. W. Commerce Street from Soledad to S. Flores Streets, and Main Street from Houston to W. Commerce Streets, will be temporarily closed for 7 to 10 days. Soledad Street between Houston and W. Commerce Streets will temporarily become a two-way street for access to the Rand parking garage. City employees that were impacted by the temporary relocation of their work site should call their respective supervisors for information or the City’s hotline at 207-2255 (207-CALL) and visit the City's website at www.sanantonio.gov for updates. |
