Release Date: July 8, 2011 City of San Antonio Communications Office: 207-7234 Emergency assistance available to homeowners facing foreclosure Recognizing the difficulties of homeowners facing foreclosure, the City of San Antonio would like to make citizens aware of the Emergency Homeowner's Loan Program (EHLP), an initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which can provide emergency assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure. The deadline to apply is July 22, 2011. EHLP was created to provide emergency mortgage assistance to homeowners meet the following criteria: 1) are at least 90 days late on their mortgage payment; 2) are temporarily and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to the economy or a medical condition and 3) are at risk of foreclosure. The EHLP can provide eligible homeowners with a zero percent interest forgivable loan that pays past-due mortgage payments (including principal, interest, taxes, insurance and attorney fees), as well as a portion of the mortgage payment for up to 24 consecutive months, or up to $50,000, whichever comes first. Interested homeowners will first complete a Pre-Applicant Screening Worksheet. If funding is insufficient to provide assistance to all eligible pre-applicants, a random selection process will be utilized to select potential awardees.
