Historic districts and local landmarks to be better protected through enforcement

The Office of Historic Preservation has created a new position that will help preserve historic areas in the city. As the new Historic Building Enforcement Officer, Ron Meyers is responsible for investigating violations in historic districts, local landmarks, and River Improvement Overlay districts, and educating property owners on requirements for changes to historic properties.

Meyers brings years of enforcement experience from previous employment in the City’s Code Compliance and Solid Waste departments.

He will respond to a variety of issues, such as work started without permits or proper approval and code violations.

"Our regulations are only as effective as our ability to enforce them," Shannon Peterson, Historic Preservation Officer said. "There has been a strong desire from residents of historic districts for this position."

Residents are encouraged to notify the Office of Historic Preservation of potential violations by calling 219-2093 between 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours, residents can call 3-1-1 or email OHP@sanantonio.gov.
