Los Pastores make their way to Market Square

The City's Downtown Operations Department will bring the joy of the holidays and the annual tradition of La Pastorela to Market Square, located at 514 W. Commerce. The event is free and is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will perform the traditional Pastorela (nativity play) at 4:30 pm on the Hidalgo Plaza stage. Los Pastores (the shepherds) will make their journey through the historic plazas of the Market Square to adore the Christ Child accompanied by musical performers and live sheep.

This family holiday event is filled with music, cultural performances, food booths, arts and crafts, and the whimsically decorated, brightly colored pinatas for kids to break with plenty of candy for all. Children will also have the opportunity to learn how to make a Mexican Christmas pinata. Ballet Folklorico Festival, Ritmo Colombiano, and The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center will delight guests with their culturally-rich and highly entertaining performances.
