First public workshop on Downtown Placemaking set
-New approach aims to revitalize downtown San Antonio-

Plans are in the works to make downtown San Antonio a greater place! All those who are interested in learning how to help revitalize the heart of the City with a new and interactive approach are encouraged to come to a public workshop on Downtown Placemaking at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17 at the Central Library, located at 600 Soledad.

Early this summer, the City of San Antonio's Center City Development Office contracted with the Project for Public Spaces (PPS) to develop a program of staff trainings and public workshops to implement the concept of placemaking in San Antonio. As part of this effort, the Placemap website, http://www.pps.org/placemap/sanantonio, was launched to receive ideas from the community on the best and most opportunistic downtown spots. Since its launch, more than 200 ideas have been mapped and submitted. Ideas can still be viewed and submitted at the Placemap website.

This public workshop will be the first opportunity to learn about Placemaking, discuss some of the ideas that have already been submitted online and look at other areas for placemaking opportunities. The challenges of placemaking and next steps toward implementation will also be discussed.

To register and for more information about the workshop, e-mail malik.jabeir@sanantonio.gov. Free validated parking will be available at the Central Library parking lot.
