Housing fair to showcase affordable homes

House hunters looking for high quality, new homes at inexpensive prices are encouraged to attend the City's Tierra del Sol Affordable Showcase of Homes Housing Fair scheduled for Saturday, February 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sonny Melendrez Community Center, located at 5919 W. Commerce.

In addition to learning more about the floor plans in the Tierra del Sol residential community, potential home buyers can learn about down payment assistance programs, credit counseling, homebuyer education programs, learn how to pre-qualify for home loans and more.

Once complete, the subdivision, located at the corner of Maridel and Surrells streets, west of Monterrey Park on West Commerce Street, will have 31 homes.

In partnership with the City of San Antonio and the Greater San Antonio Builders Association, the Tierra Del Sol subdivision is the latest installment in the Affordable Showcase of Homes program. Established in 1995 as a public/private partnership, the initiative seeks to revitalize the inner-city by targeting areas that are beginning to show signs of deterioration.

Homes are made available to low and moderate income families and compliment the existing character of homes in the surrounding community. The goals of the program are to provide affordable housing, generate an economic boost to the local economy, and improve the beautification and quality of life in the community. The Tierra del Sol subdivision is the sixth residential community in the nationally-recognized Affordable Showcase of Homes Program.
