City, students repair homes in Eastside historic district

More than 200 students from the University of Texas at San Antonio will make repairs to 15 homes in the Dignowity Hill Historic District on the Eastside.

The City's Office of Historic Preservation, along with the UTSA College of Architecture and volunteer contractors and building professionals are coordinating this service project known as S.T.A.R. (Students Together Achieving Revitalization).

Minor exterior repairs and maintenance projects will be done to assist homeowners in the Dignowity Hill Historic District. The project begins March 26 and 27 and continues on April 2 and 3. Work will be done from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fifteen houses were chosen for the project to help promote revitalization in this area. The work mostly includes minor repairs to windows, siding, and porches as well as general exterior yard maintenance and painting.

This hands-on learning experience for the students at UTSA also gives an opportunity to assist homeowners in labor intensive, costly tasks.
