City, students repair homes in Tobin Hill Historic District

More than 100 architecture students from the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College will make repairs to six homes in the Tobin Hill Historic District. The City's Office of Historic Preservation, along with the UTSA College of Architecture and volunteer contractors and building professionals, are coordinating this service project known as S.T.A.R. (Students Together Achieving Revitalization). This is the first time that S.T.A.R. will be in Tobin Hill.

Minor exterior repairs and maintenance projects will be done to assist homeowners in the Tobin Hill Historic District on Nov.19 and 20. Work will be done from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Six houses were chosen for the project to help promote revitalization in this area. The work mostly includes minor repairs to windows, siding, and porches, as well as general exterior yard maintenance and painting.

This hands-on learning experience for the students also provides them an opportunity to assist homeowners with labor-intensive, costly tasks. For more information on this project, call 207-0066 or email nicholas.fuqua@sanantonio.gov
