Westside culture, history focus of inaugural event

Westside residents and interested stakeholders are invited to attend a Westside Cultural Resource Survey Kick-Off event on Saturday, February 26, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Mexican American Unity Council Community Room, located at 2300 W. Commerce. The purpose of the event is to solicit interest and participation from the Westside community about places of cultural, historical and architectural significance on the Westside of San Antonio.

Attendees will have an opportunity to research historic properties, learn about truths and myths of historic preservation and historic preservation resources. Organizers will also collect photographs, oral histories, and stories about places of cultural importance on the Westside. The event will be the first of many sessions to help identify significant areas and places on the Westside.

This event is sponsored by the Office of Historic Preservation, in partnership with the Westside Development Corporation, the San Antonio Conservation Society, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Partners in the Field Program, the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, the Westside Historic Preservation Group, and other members of the Westside Community. For more information, contact Elizabeth Porterfield at 207-3327 or elizabeth.porterfield@sanantonio.gov.
