Public invited to
Open House for proposed East Commerce Street Arts & Entertainment District
-Learn more
about District standards, adoption process and economic incentives-
The City of San Antonio Planning and Community Development Department, in
partnership with San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside (SAGE), will host
an Open House from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the
Heritage Room at St. Philip’s College, 1801 Martin Luther King Drive.
Community stakeholders will have an opportunity to review and provide
input on the draft standards for the proposed East Commerce Street Arts &
Entertainment District. City staff will present information and answer
questions about use and design standards, the adoption process and
available economic incentives.
An Arts and Entertainment District is a special zoning district which
promotes and protects existing arts and entertainment venues and
encourages the creation and development of additional arts and
entertainment venues and compatible uses. East Commerce Street, between
the Alamodome and the AT&T Center, is the proposed location for this new
district.
Community stakeholders provided their vision for an Arts & Entertainment
District during a Visioning Workshop held in February. Based on the
community’s input, a set of four unique sub districts were created.
During a public meeting held in March, participants were taken on a
virtual tour of these sub districts and asked to provide their feedback on
their unique characteristics. Draft standards for the proposed district
are now ready for review.
After incorporating comments from the public, the draft standards for this
new special zoning district will be presented by the Planning and
Community Development Department to Zoning Commission for consideration
and City Council for approval.
For more information about the proposed East Commerce Street Arts &
Entertainment District, call Michael Taylor at 207-0145.
