City Council to hear $550 million in proposed bond project recommendations

City Council will be presented with recommendations for proposed 2007-2012 bond projects tomorrow during its scheduled informal “B” worksession. The session will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber and will be televised on TVSA, cable channel 21.

The four City Council-appointed Community Bond Committees will present their recommendations that have been developed through 40 hours of public meeting time with more than 500 citizens attending over 15 meetings.

The City’s 2007-2012 Bond Program proposes $550 million in streets and sidewalks improvements ($300 million), drainage improvements ($150 million), park improvements ($50 million) and other community initiatives ($50 million). It can be achieved without an increase in the City’s property tax rate. The program is scheduled for voter consideration on May 12, 2007.

Community Bond Committees were created to obtain public input and analyze possible projects to be included in the program. Residents were invited to community meetings to participate in the discussion of proposed projects. The City’s website, www.sanantonio.gov, includes each committee's adopted recommendations for projects to be included in the program.
