City and CPS Energy set
to launch Weatherization Program
The City of San Antonio is partnering with CPS Energy to launch
Casa Verde SA, a weatherization assistance program for low-income
households. The program, which was made possible through federal
stimulus funds, is designed to assist low-income individuals by
increasing the energy efficiency of their houses and reducing their
utility bills. Priority for the weatherization program will be given to
the elderly, families with young children, individuals with
disabilities, households with high energy costs relative to income, and
households with high energy consumption.
Casa Verde SA will be launched this Saturday, December 12,
at a community event in Dignowity Hill. The event will begin at 10:00
a.m. at the Carver Cultural Community Center, 226 N. Hackberry. At the
event residents can learn more about Casa Verde SA as well as receive
information from a number of other social service programs.
Households at or below 200 percent of the federally determined poverty
level whose homes have adequate structural conditions will qualify for
Casa Verde SA. Priority households will receive weatherization measures
that improve their energy efficiency. The City has initially targeted
three areas for the program -- Dignowity Hill, the Roosevelt Corridor
and the West side, however; everyone in the city is eligible to apply.
Approximately, 1,400 homes in San Antonio will be weatherized under this
federally supported program over a two-year period. Homes to be
weatherized under this program must meet basic structural and safety
standards as required by federal and state guidelines. For additional
program information, call 353-CASA (2272).
