Assistant Police Chief in City’s history “Assistant Chief Garcia’s commitment, experience and dedication will be a true asset to both the citizens of San Antonio and the SAPD,” said McManus. “With this appointment, the San Antonio Police Department will continue to move forward in our commitment to provide quality services.” Prior to Garcia’s promotion, she commanded the SAPD Administrative Division and was responsible for overseeing the Resource & Planning Section, Communication and Transportation Section, Property Section, Training Academy, Records Section, Internal Affairs and Fiscal Operational Support Section. Garcia has served in the Department for 25 years and holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, as well as a Master of Science in Justice Policy from the University of Texas at San Antonio. “I am pleased that Chief Garcia has earned this promotion,” said City Manager Sheryl Sculley. “During my tenure as City Manager, the first female Assistant Police and Fire Chiefs have been promoted.” Assistant Fire Chief Yvette Granato was promoted on February 13, 2008 and District Fire Chief Brooke Hildreth was promoted on January 10, 2008. Pending the outcome of the current investigation, Assistant Police Chief Rudy Gonzales will assume responsibilities as a Police Captain assigned as a Night Commander.
