Free movies provide a way for residents to enjoy downtown

Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and head downtown to watch Hollywood’s stars under the stars. Starting Thursday, September 4, HemisFair Park will transform into an outdoor theater when the City’s Downtown Operations Department kicks off Movies By Moonlight.

“We are excited to bring this fun-filled event to our historic HemisFair Park,” said Paula X. Stallcup, director of Downtown Operations. “Movies by Moonlight offer yet another avenue for our residents and visitors to enjoy downtown San Antonio.”

Great flicks will be shown every Thursday and admission is free. The movies will be shown in the grassy area under the HemisFair Park arch and the Magik theater building at S. Alamo and Nueva. Show time begins at 7:30 p.m. with a pre-show featuring old-time cartoons followed by a brief intermission and the feature film beginning at 8:10 p.m. The feature time and schedule may vary due to the length of the movie. Concessions will be available. The September movie schedule is as follows:

• September 4 – Grease
• September 11 – Titanic
• September 18 – Sixteen Candles
• September 25 – Casablanca

Free parking is available at the Alamo Street Lot near the HemisFair Park Playground and the Durango Street lots across from the Federal Courthouse.
