Deadline
extended for Municipal Civil Service Commission applicants
The deadline has been extended for individuals interested in
serving as an alternate or regular Municipal Civil Service Commissioner.
Interested applicants have until Friday, May 8 to submit an
application. The selected individuals will be appointed by City Council
and must be available to serve an initial two-year term. Appointed
alternate or regular commissioners will be compensated $20 per meeting
and provided free designated parking.
Alternate Commissioners are expected to attend Municipal Civil Service
Commission hearings in the event a Commissioner is not able to attend.
The purpose of the Municipal Civil Service Commission is to hear
administrative appeals of City employees in the classified service who
have been suspended, demoted, or terminated from their positions. The
Commission makes recommendations to the City Manager as to the
disposition of these cases.
Interested applicants must meet the following requirements to be
considered:
• City of San Antonio resident;
• Registered voter;
• U.S. citizen;
• Mentally competent;
• Has no legal conviction of felony; and,
• Able to meet one or two meetings biweekly; averaging 6 hours per
meeting.

“Boards and Commissions Agendas,” then selecting “Vacancies on Boards
and Commission,” then “Apply.” Applications are also available in the
Office of the City Clerk located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, 100
Military Plaza. Applications may be mailed the City Clerk, P.O. Box
