State recognizes Ready South Texas as “Model Preparedness Campaign”

Ready South Texas, the emergency preparedness campaign launched last Monday by the City of San Antonio, Bexar County and Comal County, has been recognized by the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management as a “Model Preparedness Campaign.”

The division’s website, www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/, provides a link to the campaign’s website, www.readysouthtexas.gov, along with other emergency management links and information. The division is part of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Ready South Texas is made possible through the FY04 San Antonio Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant provided to the three government agencies. The UASI grant was made available by the Department of Homeland Security, through the Office of Domestic Preparedness.

Ready South Texas’ mission is to educate citizens in the three communities, through public outreach, in appropriate actions prior to, during and after critical incidents, like a possible act of terrorism. This educational, public outreach program is a proactive approach to emergency preparedness in the event of such a threat.
