City repairs damaged Saint Anthony statue

The statue of St. Anthony of Padua, the city's namesake, has been restored three days after it was defaced on October 18. The statue sits in Main Plaza in front of the San Fernando Cathedral.

The repair work for the 54 year-old marble and granite statue included the placement of metal pins to re-apply the statue’s head and the application of a waterproof sealant.

The St. Anthony Statue was donated in 1955 and designed by the late Louis Rodriguez, a well known San Antonio artist and founder of Rodriguez Brothers Memorials. Rodriguez traveled to Italy to select the marble for the statue and commissioned a group of Italian artisans to sculpt it.
