Public Meeting set to
discuss updates to the Huebner/Leon Creeks Community Plan
Interested citizens and community stakeholders are invited to a public
meeting to discuss the future land use plan for the Huebner/Leon Creeks
Community on Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at St. Brigid’s
Catholic Church, located at 6907 Kitchener Road. Residents, business,
commercial property, and vacant land owners in the area are encouraged
to attend to provide input on the plan, which was originally adopted in
2003.
The City’s Unified Development Code requires that neighborhood and
community plans be reviewed by the Planning Commission at least once
every five years, and if necessary, amended by the City Council. Since
the five year period will end in August 2009, the Planning Team and area
neighborhood association representatives requested a five year update to
the land use plan.
The Huebner/Leon Creeks planning area is located in northwest Bexar
County and is generally bounded by Bandera Road to the west; Prue Road
to the north; Babcock Road to the east; and Huebner and Eckert Roads to
the south. The planning area consists of approximately 4.78 square miles
with a population of approximately 16,000 residents (Census 2000).
Completed plans represent the collective vision for the community and
identify the preferred method and form of future growth. After adoption,
the future land use plan will be utilized by the City when evaluating
zoning change requests.
