The Department of Communications and Public Affairs The Department of Communications and Public Affairs manages the City's communications and media relations activities, develops information and public awareness campaigns, produces internal and external publications, oversees content on the City's website, www.sanantonio.gov, and manages TVSA, the City's cable television channel. The department's director is Di Galvan. Communications and Public Affairs utilizes radio, television, print and electronic media outlets to inform citizens of important service delivery changes, upcoming events, and recent accomplishments of the City organization. News releases, news conferences and public awareness campaigns are used daily to accomplish this task. The department also is charged with responding to inquiries from local, national and international media regarding City services, issues and City officials. In addition to working with media, the City also utilizes various publications to inform and educate citizens. A monthly newsletter, dot-gov, offers insight on new services and important events that touch citizens lives. The City Calendar, published each month, is another opportunity to remind citizens of important city-wide events coming up during the month and allows residents to see what's happening at various City facilities. Finally, the department produces a number of special publications that outline new City programs or educate citizens on important issues such as municipal elections. Communications and Public Affairs also coordinates programming for TVSA, cable channel 21. This government access channel is another tool the City uses to broadcast City Council meetings, Bexar County Commissioner's Court meetings, insightful talk programs hosted by City Councilmembers and by City departments, and special programs produced by the department. Additionally, staff also provide audio-visual assistance during City Council meetings, news conferences and other events. |
