Make sure your child has all of their vaccinations before school starts

Summer is almost over and that means it will be time for students across San Antonio to hit the books. But, before your child returns to school make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date.

Parents are encouraged to avoid the rush and the long lines by getting their child vaccinated while summer schedules are flexible. By scheduling doctor visits during the summer, families can avoid crowded medical offices and the risk of doctor appointments not being available. Early scheduling also helps to space out vaccinations for children who are not up-to-date with their shots. It allows children to avoid the trauma of receiving multiple injections at one time.

If a child does not have a primary care physician, immunizations are available at several community and walk-in clinics including the two Metro Health clinics, Goodwill Clinic (727 NW Loop 410) and Main Immunization Center (345 W. Commerce).

Remember, Texas law requires all children attending schools and daycares to have their required immunizations before being admitted. For more information about vaccination requirements, visit www.sanantonio.gov/health/immunizations.html or call the Immunizations Division at (210) 207-8750.
