Central Library displays exhibit by acclaimed
photographic artist Chris Jordan
An exhibit by acclaimed photographer Chris Jordan will be displayed
August 3 through August 29 at the Central Library, 600 Soledad. The
exhibit, Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait,
casts light on the staggering levels of mass-consumption in America.
Focusing on blinding white walls made from millions of sheets of
office paper, a giant whirlpool of discarded cell phones or dense
forests made of stacks of supermarket paper bags, Jordan's massive
digital photographs provide a startling perspective on the enormity
of America's waste stream. His work's ability to look at the massive
picture as well as the intricate details inspires individuals to
reflect on the roles that we all play when it comes to the planet.
Jordan will be in San Antonio on August 6 to give a free lecture at
7:00 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium, 100 Auditorium Circle. His
lecture will incorporate a slide show that discusses issues such as
e-waste, the environment and global warming. He examines consumer
culture in a vulnerable and self-reflective style, sharing his
personal journey from detached corporate lawyer to passionately
engaged artist and cultural activist.
