Bah, humbug. Don't let thieves ruin your
holidays
'Tis the season for giving. But don't
give thieves a reason to take your gifts. The San Antonio Police
Department offers the following tips to help you keep you, your loved
ones and your possessions safe during the holiday season.
Shopping:
• Shop with someone, not alone.
• Purses and wallets - don’t leave them unattended, even for a minute.
• Don’t carry a lot of money.
• Put cash, credit cards, identification in different places or
pockets.
• If rushing, still be aware of surroundings.
• Never leave children alone in a store or car.
• If children get lost, tell them to find police officer or cashier.
• ATM machine - keep in mind people can be watching.
In your vehicle:
• Park in well-lit area.
• Always lock your doors.
• Drive with windows closed.
• Use any anti-theft device like an alarm, steering wheel lock, or
kill switch.
• Hide valuables and bags.
• Don’t leave children in cars.
At home:
• Don’t place your gifts and tree at a window.
• Hide valuables if you’re having a party.
• Ask neighbors to pick up your mail and newspaper if you’re going
out-of-town.
• Boxes – cut or tear up. Don’t advertise what you got for Christmas.
• If you have automatic timer, use it if you’re going out-of-town.
