San Antonio International Airport
receives top score
The San Antonio International Airport received a perfect rating of
"zero discrepancies" during their Federal Aviation Administration's
(FAA) annual inspection.
During the three-day inspection, the FAA rigorously reviews all
components of an airport's ability to provide a safe operating
facility for airline and passenger customers. Airport Operating
Certificates issued by the FAA serve to ensure safety in air
transportation. To obtain a certificate, an airport must agree to
certain operational and safety standards and provide for such things
as firefighting and rescue equipment.
Areas that the airport was inspected on included:
-
Airfield inspection. Check the condition of pavement, markings,
lighting, signs, safety areas and overall airfield conditions.
-
Aircraft rescue and fire fighting inspection. Conduct a
timed-response drill; review aircraft rescue and firefighting
personnel training records, including annual live-fire drills.
-
Fueling
facilities inspection.
-
Night
inspection. Evaluate runway/taxiway and apron lighting and
signage, pavement markings.
-
Compliance with Part 139. If the FAA finds that an airport is
not meeting its obligations, it often imposes administrative
actions, financial penalties or in extreme cases, the FAA might
revoke the airport's certificate (Source: FAA website).
Congratulations to the San Antonio International Airport and its
staff.
