Enjoying fireworks safely
Everyone enjoys a spectacular fireworks display, but fireworks can be
hazardous and they are illegal within the city limits.
The San Antonio Fire Department and the San Antonio Police
Department are teaming up to make sure citizens obey the law.
The two departments will be patrolling to ensure that San Antonio
residents do not bring fireworks within city limits. Anyone caught
bringing fireworks across the city line will be cited for a Class C
misdemeanor and face a fine ranging from $250 to $2000.
The two departments are trying to prevent a repeat of New Year's Eve
where firefights fielded a high number of calls, including 328 calls
related to grass fires thought to have been started by fireworks.
San Antonio is experiencing record highs and very dry conditions so
residents are encouraged to leave the fireworks displays to the
professionals.
Individuals witnessing fireworks violations during the holiday are
encouraged to contact the fireworks hotline at (210) 207-0202.
