National Night Out
helps neighborhoods fight back against crime
National Night Out (NNO), sponsored by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TOWN
WATCH, is a neighborhood crime and drug prevention event that occurs
annually on the first Tuesday in August and is celebrated in every
city, town and village in the U.S. This year, it will be celebrated on
August 7. In addition to increasing awareness of crime and drug
prevention programs, NNO also strengthens neighborhood spirit and
community-police partnerships, while sending a message to criminals
that "neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime!"
San Antonio has always had strong and enthusiastic support for and
participation in NNO, and won national NNO Awards in 1998, 2003 and in
2006. During NNO 2006, more than 450 San Antonio communities and
approximately 130,000 residents registered to participate. We hope
that NNO 2007 will be even larger!
To register your neighborhood for NNO 2007, you may print out NNO
Registration Forms, you may use the On-Line NNO 2007 Registration
Form, or you may obtain forms from your local police substation. See
the
San Antonio Police Department's website
for more details.
