Dog Awareness Week

The City's Animal Care Services (ACS) in conjunction with the River City Cluster of Dog Shows (RCCDS) will sponsor a citywide "Dog Awareness Week" July 6 through July 12. This initiative coincides with the dog show being held at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center and features family-friendly events to emphasize the message of responsible pet ownership. 

The kick-off begins with a pooch parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July 5 at Pearsall Dog Park, 4700 Old Pearsall Road. This event entitled "Sunday in the Park" will also feature a dog costume contest, basic dog training classes and other activities until 2:00 p.m.

During the week's festivities, a variety of community groups, businesses, animal shelters and local veterinarians are joining together to offer low cost or free pet resources including a number of free spay and neuter vouchers.

The highlight of Dog Awareness Week will be an appearance by Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, who will reinforce the message of responsible pet ownership and the importance of becoming a no-kill community.
