Library introduces check-out receipt service

The San Antonio Public Library has changed the way it checks out books and other library materials. Instead of a due date stamped on a sticker affixed to an item, library customers will receive printed receipts detailing the items borrowed, together with their due dates. Upon request, patrons will also be able to obtain receipts showing all materials they currently have checked out.

Library Director Ramiro Salazar emphasized that the change is being made with customer service in mind.

“We are always looking for ways to use technology to improve public service. The new receipts will give our customers an all-in-one list of everything borrowed at one transaction, or of everything a customer currently has checked out, along with a list of dates those items are due.” The service would allow a faster check-out process, shortening the amount of time patrons might have to wait to complete their library visits. “This new, faster process will also allow library staff to spend more time on the floor assisting customers in the library stacks,” he added.

Customers who lose their receipts can check their accounts on the library’s web page, www.sanantonio.gov/library, or call 207-2600.

Printed information also will be available for customers to take with them.

“Although this is a change from the ‘traditional’ way of doing library business, we believe that our customers will approve of the faster, better service that will result,” Salazar said.
