Save the date for Main Plaza

Main Plaza logoMark your calendars! Construction on the historic Main Plaza is almost complete. The grand opening, slated for April 13, promises to be a celebration for the record books.

The festivities will kick-off at 5:00 p.m. with a Mariachi Mass at San Fernando Cathedral. Throughout the night there will be musical entertainment including a special performance by the San Antonio Symphony, lighting of the new Main Plaza fountains and a special recognition ceremony celebrating San Antonio's past and present leaders.

The redeveloped Main Plaza will boast lush green landscaping, five interactive fountains, food kiosks and Wi-Fi service. The result, an area that combines the beauty and history of the City's past with the modern amenities of today. It will also provide direct access to the River Walk with the addition of a new entrance on the plaza's eastern edge.

Construction on Main Plaza began February 2007. During the project, several historical items have been found including pottery, coins and a broken sword that dates back to the Mexican-American war.
