Come Out for a Breath of Fresh Air on Fresh Air Friday In preparation for the 2009 Ozone Season, the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and the City of San Antonio are hosting the third annual Fresh Air Friday event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 3 at Main Plaza, 115 N. Main, to promote walking to lunch in the downtown area rather than driving to another location. The Ozone Season is the stretch of time between April and October when air quality may decline in the region, primarily due to car exhaust and gasoline fumes baking in the hot sunlight. Walking to lunch rather than driving is one of several ways in which individuals can take an active role in reducing ground-level ozone, which is harmful to our health as well as to our larger environment. Walking rather than driving provides exercise and saves money, too! At the event, there will be live music, informative talks, exhibits on the latest alternative commuting options, information on potential improvements to air quality, energy efficiency, and many other healthy, green topics. Included among the exhibitors will be several green businesses ranging from Clothesline Cleaners to Shaklee, nonprofit groups such as the Metropolitan Partnership for Energy and Solar San Antonio, and government agencies and programs such as the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization and the City’s Graffiti Wipeout program. While brochures, informational packets, free samples, and other promotional items will be given out during Fresh Air Friday, a wide range of door prizes will also be awarded, including a $101 gift certificate for a “day of beauty” at Aveda Institute and a free pest control treatment from Earth Wise Organic Pest Control. Mark your calendar to attend Fresh Air Friday. In case of rain, the event will rescheduled for Friday, April 17. For more information, visit www.aacog.com.Return to dot-gov homepage |
