Main Plaza Redevelopment: Downtown
drivers,
visitors
should be aware of street closures around the project
The first steps to transform the heart of downtown San Antonio continue
with Phase 1 construction on the Main Plaza Redevelopment Project.
Drivers are advised to be aware of the following upcoming street closure
for Phase 2 construction which will get underway on March 10.
- Phase 2 Street Closure:
- Intersection at Market and Main Plaza streets will be closed beginning
Sunday, March 10 and ending on Thursday, April 5.
- At least two through lanes on Market Street will be kept open during peak
traffic periods from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on
weekdays. At least one lane will be open during non-peak travel times.
- Full intersection closures, when necessary, will be limited to nights and
weekends.
- At least one side of north-south and east-west pedestrian crossing will be
available at all times.
Alternate routes for the Phase 2 closure are as follows (map attached):
- Dwyer/Main Plaza Street Detour:
- Northbound traffic on Dwyer will take a right turn on Nueva and head
eastbound to St. Mary's where it will take a left turn. Immediately after
the left
turn, traffic will take the Navarro fork to the right and proceed northbound
to
Travis. Then a left turn on Travis will direct traffic back to Soledad
(Soledad is an extension of Dwyer).
- Market Street Detour:
- Eastbound traffic on Dolorosa/Market will take a right turn on Flores and
head
southbound to Nueva where it will take a left turn. It will then head
eastbound
on Nueva to St. Mary's where it will take a left turn. Immediately after the
left
turn, traffic will take the Navarro fork to the right which will direct it
back to
Market.
Drivers also are advised to be aware of a Phase I traffic plan addition
detailed as follows:
- Phase I Traffic Plan Addition:
- Dwyer/Main Plaza Street will temporarily be converted from a one-way, northbound only street to two-way traffic from Villita to Nueva streets
effective
today, March 1.
- A temporary traffic signal light has been installed at the intersection of
Nueva and Dwyer streets facing north to accommodate the two-way traffic. The
temporary addition
will allow the free flow of traffic during this initial Main Plaza project
construction and takes place in conjunction with the complete closure of
Dwyer/Main Plaza Street from Dolorosa alleyway to Market Street and varying
lane closures on Dwyer/Main Plaza Street from Villita to Dolorosa alleyway.
Additional project construction information and
street closures are detailed on the Main Plaza website,
www.sanantonio.gov/mainplaza.
