San Antonio libraries go wireless The entire San Antonio Public Library system is now a wireless “hot spot,” with the initiation of free wireless Internet service at the Central Library and all branch libraries. “Since the library is a public institution dedicated to providing open access to information, wireless Internet service is a natural next step,” said Immediate Past Chairman of the Library Board of Trustees John Nicholas, who spearheaded the project. “The Library Board and staff are very excited that we are able to make this free service available to the community.” Library patrons wishing to take advantage of the new service will need a device such as a laptop computer or PDA (personal data assistant) with a wireless network card. WiFi users will also need to provide their own mouses, power sources, headphones (if they wish to listen to audio files) and other equipment.
