Soul Food Fest 2008
Just because Fiesta is over does not
mean that the celebrations have to come to an end. The 9th Annual Soul
Food Fest is just around the corner.

From 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16 and from 11:00 a.m. to
midnight on Saturday
May 17 the San Antonio community is invited to attend this free event
(guests are asked to bring a
canned food item) at the La Villita
Historic Arts Village (South Alamo at Nueva).
It will be two days of good music, good fun, and of course good food.
Guests can feast on items such as corn bread, gumbo, fried fish,
collard greens, barbeque brisket, shrimp etouffee and bread pudding
with rum sauce.
Friday is gospel night at the fest. The entertainment will include
local, regional, and national gospel music artists, praise dancers,
spoken word and mime acts. Ten adult choirs will also compete for cash
prizes during the event.
Saturday is family day. During the day, activities will include games,
face painting, a youth gospel choir competition and several live bands
including Silver and the Secret Code, Charlie Wood and 3rd
Stream, Canela and Psychedelic Jukebox. There will
also be a gospel music workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Space is
limited at the workshop so pre-registration is required.
Come out and enjoy this two-day celebration for the soul. For more
information, call 414-4394.
