Building safety where you live, work and play

When you enter a house or building you most likely do not think about how that place was constructed. You most likely don't ask yourself the question "is it safe?" Lucky for you, your local safety experts are thinking about building safety and fire prevention every day.

To help raise awareness of building safety, several city departments including Development Services, Housing and Neighborhood Services and the Fire Department will celebrate Building Safety Week May 5 through 11 by having informational booths from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cliff Morton Development and Services Center, 1901 S. Alamo. At the event, information will be given to visitors that will help promote the use and understanding of building safety and fire prevention codes to protect lives and property.

The following departments will have booths during Building Safety Week:

May 5:     Development Services Building Inspectors and the Fire Department. In addition,
the Fire Department will be registering citizens for free smoke detectors.

May 6:     Housing and Neighborhood Services

May 7:     Development Services' construction inspectors and Public Works' accessibility staff

May 8:     Development Services' mechanical, electrical and plumbing inspectors

May 9:     Housing and Neighborhood Services Code Compliance Officers and Development
              Services inspectors.
