City looking for neighborhoods to sweep The City of San Antonio’s Housing & Neighborhood Services Department is accepting applications for the Extreme Neighborhood Target Sweep Program to be conducted during the City’s 2007-2008 Fiscal Year beginning October 1. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, June 29. Housing & Neighborhood Services has completed 213 sweeps since the program’s inception in 1997. As part of a sweep, a month-long comprehensive bundle of City services will be conducted in one selected neighborhood in each council district and include year-long follow-up services. The Neighborhood Sweep Program was created ten years ago to impact neighborhoods with services from all City departments. The program is an effort to promote long-term problem solving, improve property maintenance, and restore pride in neighborhoods while fostering communication between residents and local government. Services include street and pothole repair, vacant lot cleanup, brush collection, code compliance inspections, graffiti abatement, neighborhood planning assistance and other services conducive to each neighborhood’s needs.
