Don't let the flu bug you, get your influenza shot

As the season changes from fall to winter, the City's Metro Health Department encourages you to not let the flu bug get you down, now is the time to get a flu shot.
Influenza season runs through December, January and beyond, most often peaking in February, but influenza viruses can continue to cause illness into the spring.

Influenza causes nearly 36,000 deaths and results in more than 200,000 people being hospitalized from late fall to early spring.  Getting a flu vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others, especially kids.  Metro Health is working to vaccinate all children ages six months to 18 years of age who do not have a private doctor as well as others who are high risk. Anyone in the following groups can visit the Main Immunization Clinic located at 345 W. Commerce or the Goodwill Clinic at Loop 410 and Blanco:

  • All children ages 6 months to 18 years old

  • Individuals age 50 or older

  • Anyone at risk for medical complications, i.e. diabetics, asthmatics, or people living with HIV/AIDS

  • All people who live with or care for individuals at high risk, including those who care for children less than 6 months of age

The vaccination cost is $25. Children with a valid Medicaid or CHIP card will not be charged. Other children qualifying for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program can receive their flu shot for $10.  Medicare Part B and several Medicare supplement plans also will be accepted.
