Fire Code Amendments

On October 1, amendments were made and adopted to the IFC (International Fire Code) relative to smoke detectors, sprinklers, and fire alarms.

Newly adopted code amendments require the installation of battery operated smoke detectors in existing apartments and dwellings not already equipped with single station or wired smoke detectors. Installation to phase in smoke detectors begins January 1, 2010. By December 31, 2011, every existing apartment in the city should be equipped with at least one battery operated smoke detector in each sleeping area.
