New department to oversee downtown
maintenance, visitor venues
The City
recently created the Downtown Operations Department in an effort to
consolidate major downtown service delivery areas including the
maintenance and operations of downtown parks and venues such as the
River Walk and the Spanish Governor’s Palace. The department also will
be responsible for the maintenance of streets and sidewalks in the
central business district and will manage and coordinate major special
events such as Fiesta and the Houston Street Fair. Paula X.
Stallcup, a 14-year City veteran, is the director of the new
department.
